Kogi Guber 2019: Masked Gunmen Attack Gov. Makinde, PDP Candidate, Wada In Their Hotel

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde and Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s election in Kogi state, Musa Wada on Friday escaped being whisked away by masked gunmen, who attacked the Suitorial Hotel where they were lodged.

The gunmen, dressed in police uniforms and bullet proof masks, were said to have arrived the hotel at about 12.50 pm with some of them scaling the fence to gain access.

Makinde is the Chairman of the PDP Governorship campaign Council for Kogi state.

The gunmen however did not succeed in gaining access into the hotel as security men attached to the Governor repelled and chased them away.

An eye witness said while some of the masked men climbed the fence of the hotel to gain access, others came in through the gate, alleging they may have come into the hotel to abduct the PDP candidate.

The eye witness said: “Some people said they may have been fake policemen but the governor’s security men said the attackers were not fake judging from uniform they were wearing and that they were hooded so that they will not be identified.”

Director General of Publicity of the PDP Campaign Council, Farouk Adejoh, who confirmed the attack told The Nation on phone that about 50 of the men dressed in police uniform came in to attack and apparently to abduct the governorship candidate of the PDP who was lodged in the same hotel.

Adejoh said: “I can confirm to you that the hotel was attacked by hooded men in police uniform. They came in tinted buses, but our security details repelled them.

“We have been complaining that there are so many tinted vehicles that are not registered in the state and two days ago, the Commissioner of Police said such vehicles should be impounded. But these men came in those tinted vehicles”.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Taiwo Adisa, also confirmed the attack, saying “Information reaching us from Lokoja, the Kogi state capital confirmed that some armed and masked security men who appeared in police uniforms have attacked the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.

“Makinde is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Kogi State Campaign Council. He is in Kogi in his capacity as the Chairman of that Council.

“Eyewitnesses confirmed that the hooded security operatives arrived the Suitorial Hotels, Lokoja, located along Stadium Road, Lokoja where the Governor and some members of the PDP Campaign Council are lodged at about 12.50 pm, on Friday, shooting sporadically and attempting to break into the hotel rooms.

“It was gathered the some of the hooded security operatives scaled the fence of the Hotel and attempted to enter the rooms.

“A melee was set off as the security operatives attached to the Governor of Oyo state were said to have resisted the invaders.”

Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, however said the Police also got the information but denied that there was an attack on the governor’s hotel.

The Nation gathered that the PDP high command has reached out to the Inspector General of Police, asking him to ensure that nothing happen to its candidate.

Information from Anyimgba, Dekina local government area of the state also have it some houses belonging to some PDP leaders in the area were allegedly destroyed early on Friday.

A source from the area said: “There were shooting throughout the night in Anyimgba by hoodlums who apparently don’t want people to come out and vote on Saturday.

‘’But the people are determined to vote and so they mobilised themselves and disperse the hoodlums.’’

It Is Too Late To Forgive Bello For Failing To Deliver In Kogi — JS Okutepa SAN

When I watched Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State kneeling down begging kogi people today to forgive Yahaya Bello for failure of governance in that State just because election is on 16th of November 2019, I came to the conclusion that Nigerian politicians can take us for granted.

Yahaya Bello is young and he is bound to make mistakes he said. Mistakes I laughed. Mistakes?. What mistakes.

Yahaya Bello as an accidental Governor who had power foisted on him by providence was behaving in government as if there was no tomorrow.

He became synonymous with such characters as Herod and Nebuchadnezarr in the Bible.
Nobody matters to him except himself and his cronies. Forgiveness is a function of true repentance.Did he confess to Nasir El-Rufai. Kogi people want to know what he confessed to El-Rufai.

What happened to those who lost their lives under Bello’s tyrannical and mis-governance.

Let Yahaya Bello first confess his sins. What happened to our bail out funds. Why were workers not paid.
Let him tell us why in more than three years there is no visible evidence of good governance. He must be punished for his audacity of arrogance.

He acted like emperor.Yahaya Bello must explain to us in Kogi why he so desecrated the constitution and the institutions of government.

He disregarded law and order and had no respect for judicial pronouncements including orders of supreme court.

Bello must be punished to know the power of the people. It is too late to seek forgiveness when the corpse is in the mortuary of democracy. It is to late to cry when the head is off. Let the people decide in free and fair election. The day of reckoning is here.

Olalekan Adetayo and Gbenga Odogun

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State fell off while alighting from his official car on Friday, March 30, and injured his left foot, a statement from the Kogi Government House, Lokoja, said on Tuesday.

The statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, said the incident happened at the Old Market area in Lokoja when the governor was waiting to receive the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

The Speaker had visited Lokoja for the burial of Mr Umar Buba Jibril, a member of the House of Representatives, who died in Abuja on Friday.

“The injury prevented the governor from attending the burial of Jibril. He was represented by his deputy, Mr Simon Achuba,” the statement said.

It dismissed claims that Bello was hospitalised and incapacitated, stating that the governor was promptly treated by his doctors, who bandaged the leg and discharged him.

The government thanked the governor’s supporters for their concern over his health, saying that Bello was doing well and would resume work after the Easter holidays.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the clarification was necessitated by reports that the governor was critically injured in the accident.

However,  a source who witnessed the accident told one of our correspondents that the governor, who was trying to alight from his car, a  BMW which is smaller than his official Prado Jeep, tripped and sprained his left ankle and his two arms.

The eyewitness disclosed further that the car dragged the governor for some metres before he was rescued by some people and his security details.

He added that the governor was rushed to one of the private hospitals in Abuja for further treatment.

But Fanwo, in a statement on Tuesday, said Bello only injured his left foot while alighting from the vehicle.

Due to the accident, Bello on Tuesday attended a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on crutches.

The meeting was between President Muhammadu Buhari and all the governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Bello attracted the attention of his colleagues and others when he arrived the Council Chambers venue of the meeting on crutches.  (Punch)
