Elder statesman, Edwin Clark, has said the Indigenous People of Biafra is dreaming with its inclusion of the South-South region in Biafra Republic.
IPOB, which has been proscribed by the Nigerian government, is agitating to break the South-East and South-South regions away from Nigeria to form Biafra Republic.
Both regions were part of the defunct Eastern Region which rebelled against Nigeria from 1967 to 1970.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin on IPOB, Clark said, “They are very unrealistic boys. To me, IPOB is not pursuing the right thing.”
He continued, “I told him(IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu) that he has a good fight, that the people of the East are being neglected. They have only five states, whereas other regions have six. In fact, one has seven. Based on what? Nobody knows.
“For every appointment that is being made in this country, the Igbo are shortchanged. If Universities are being distributed per state, they will have five. Others will have six while North-West will have seven. This is despite the Igbo forming the third leg when this country was created.
“So, they have a good complaint, but going about it wrongly.”
When asked if the South-South states are also part of the Biafra that IPOB is agitating for, Clark said, “How can Delta be part of Biafra? In what way? Is Biafra older or bigger than Delta?
“How can Rivers State or Akwa Ibom become part of Biafra? They are dreaming for still thinking about the Eastern Region of those days.”
On Kanu’s rearrest, Clark said, “‘I hope the Federal Government will give him a fair, decent and open trial. Because, up till today, I do not understand how the Federal Government got him back into Nigeria.
“We remember the days of Umaru Dikko who was put in a big box and brought back to Nigeria. I don’t know how this young man (Kanu) was brought back to Nigeria.”
He said claims by Kanu that he was abducted in Kenya has to be addressed by the Kenyan government. (Punch)
Tasks govs, lawmakers on proactive steps Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that Fulani supremacists were planning attacks on the two geopolitical regions. Therefore, he called on alerted South East and South-South states governors and their lawmakers to collaborate with IPOB to keeping their communities safe.
In a letter entitled ‘Security of South East and South-South’ and made available to The Guardian yesterday, the IPOB leader stated that “our communities are under siege from alien invaders and killer mercenaries from the Sahel.”
He urged the legislators to collaborate with their governors as a matter of extreme urgency to pass legislations that would engender coordinated security outfits to tackle these menaces.
IPOB, according to him, is committed to assisting in this regard, if called upon to do so. Kanu alleged that even Buhari himself confirmed this when he pointed to foreign Fulani elements as the core culprits in this murderous campaign.
Stressing that their intervention is much more urgent because of the potent political and economic threats to their people’s collective existence, Kanu said: “Though not generally known, the Constitution of Nigeria, by implication, allows us (and any cohesive group of aggrieved Nigerians) to seek self-determination and autonomy as a people.”
According to him, this is specifically provided for under Articles 1 and 20 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, ratified and dome sticated by Nigeria in 1983 at CAP A9, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He consequently queried the governors for not taking the expected and appropriate legislative measures to enforce such clear statutory provisions, and the lawmakers for not having the appetite to see what the law says and the people for suffering as a consequence of this inaction.
“For as long as the interest of our people remains paramount in all your official reckoning, IPOB shall remain amenable to consulting with you on the way forward. You must know that Biafran youths will remain unhappy with you unless and until you de-proscribe IPOB,” he added.
Commenting on Kanu’s letter, IPOB’s Special Counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor, told The Guardian that the letter was sent to the governors on May 15, 2020, but they never replied.
“This was partly why IPOB went lone-wolf in forming the Eastern Security Network (ESN), only for the same South East governors to be saying that they intend to form a counterpart regional security,” he added.
Contrary to the impressing that the South East and South-South Governors and politicians, particularly the National and State Assembly lawmakers, were taken unawares before it established, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has made public the letter it wrote to them, through its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, before it established the security outfit.
The Biafra agitating group stated that it informed the Governors and politicians of the two regions on the imperative and implication of not having a security outfit before it came up with ESN when it became clear that they were not ready to protect their people.
Mazi Kanu had in a letter he personally signed, dated May 15, 2020, addressed to the South East and South-South Governors, National and State Assembly lawmakers, and Security agencies in South-East and South-South, informing them about IPOB’s establishment of ESN, to stop alleged siege on South-East and South-South communities, allegedly perpetrated by alien invaders and sponsored killer mercenaries from it said are from the Sahel.
According to the latter which was made available to newsmen through OPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group said it decided to make the letter public because IPOB has been accused at various times of being reluctant to reach out to the elected political class in the crucial project of liberating Biafra land from the vicious and deadly grip of killer herdsmen, terrorists, religious and territorial expansionism, allegedly tacitly tolerated encouraged by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
IPOB letter reads in part, “This day May 15, 2020, we wish to inform Governors, National and State Houses of Assembly Members of Southeast and South-South States, Security of Southeast and South-South, your Excellencies and Honorables, that It is no longer news that our communities are under siege from alien invaders and sponsored killer mercenaries from the Sahel.”

“Even President Muhammadu Buhari had himself recently confirmed this when he pointed to foreign Fulani elements as the core culprits in this murderous campaign.
“It is against this background and at this auspicious moment that the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown is in force; and when the fault lines in the area of our collective security and protection of our vulnerable communities have all the more been in the limelight that we now feel compelled to bury the hatchet and reach out to you to bring your good offices to bear.
“I am therefore by this communication extending hands of fellowship to you while inviting you to advert your minds to your obligations to live up to your conditional duties and responsibilities in initiating laws and policies that will impact positively on our people, especially in regard to the security of lives, property and protection of our borders against those that levy terror and jihadism.
“There is an ongoing and well-planned attack by supremacists against our people and we urge you all to collaborate with IPOB in the onerous task of keeping our communities safe.
“We urge the state legislators, in collaboration with the Governors to as a matter of extreme urgency, pass legislation that will engender coordinated security outfits to tackle these menaces.
“IPOB is committed to assisting in this regard if called upon to do so. You can take umbrage in the fact that you are the ones possessing the constitutional mandate to initiate economic and social policies for our region in a way that will even encourage Biafran entrepreneurs in the diaspora to look homewards.
“Your intervention is much more urgent because of the portent existential political and economic threats to our collective existence. Though not generally known, the Constitution of Nigeria, by implication, allows us, and any cohesive group of aggrieved Nigerians to seek self-determination and autonomy as a people.
“This is specifically provided for under Articles 1 & 20 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, ratified and domesticated by Nigeria in 1983 at CAP A9, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
“Why then are you not taking the expected and appropriate legislative measures to enforce such clear statutory provisions? Why are our lawmakers not having the appetite to see what the law says? Why are our people suffering as a consequence of this inaction?
“This is the kernel of this communication. It, therefore, requires your urgent and most serious consideration.
“In the interim, we demand answers as to why you saw fit to proscribe IPOB. While pondering, you must know that Biafran youths will remain unhappy with you unless and until you de-proscribe IPOB.
“While awaiting your response, please accept my assurances that for as long as the interest of our people remains paramount in all your official reckonings, the IPOB shall remain amenable to consulting with you, going forward.” (Vanguard News)
This is one of the most matured responses from any leader of a group seeking for freedom to his fellow citizen in a struggle.
Recently, there has been a lot brouhaha on the social media about videos and words emanating from the ex-Niger Delta Militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo.
In this direct response, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu addresses Asari Dokubo, citing that leaving some if his allegations are allowed to linger may go haywire.
Below is the response from him:
Greetings to you all!!
My appreciation to all those who are still in the struggle to restore the lost sovereignty of the Biafran people as a result of British imperial ambition of which Nigeria is one of her disastrous creations.
Let me start by asking everyone to observe a minute silence for all those who died to protect and restore the sovereignty of the Biafran people from the British & Fulani colonial ambition.
Although silence is golden but there are times it is necessary to talk before things go haywire.
Of recent, our dear compatriot Alhaji Asari Dokunbo whom we know had made his own contributions to the restoration of the sovereignty of the Biafran people had raised issues worth addressing and in order to avoid an unnecessary distraction and to keep the struggle focused on the goals we set out to accomplish, I thought it wise to address the issues raised .
The issues raised by our dear compatriot are
1) I ordered the murder of a cleric.
2) I collected money from Atiku.
3) Master – Slave relationship between diverse Biafran ethnic groups.
4) That I am a scam and fraud in the Biafran struggle.
I will take my time to address each point one after the other and later, indulge our dear comrade to reveal to fellow Biafrans what he thinks should be done differently in order to achieve Biafra’s restoration.
1) I never ordered the killing of any cleric and if anyone thinks I did, he or she should provide evidence that, I wasted Biafran resources to kill a fellow Biafran whose death can not help IPOB to restore Biafra.
2) I never collected money from Atiku and if anyone is in doubt, let him or her approach Atiku for answers. Both PDP and APC agents approached me and told me to give up the struggle for Biafra and I told them that, IPOB will only do so if the following things will be fulfilled:
a) Full Resource Control and not mere 13% derivation.
b) Opening of at least 2 deep seaports in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States starting with the construction of Ibaka, Ibeno and Bakassi deep seaports.
c) The establishment of international airports and inland ports in all states of the defunct Eastern and Mid West regions in order to emancipate Biafra land from economic strangulation.
d) Full implementation of PIB (Petroleum Industry Bill).
e) Full autonomy to all Biafran states in the areas of security, taxes, royalties, legislations etc
f) Lots more.
We lifted the boycott of election because, both parties agreed to our terms & conditions.
If we are wrong to give the Nigerian elites the opportunity to fail themselves, let the Biafrans voice out.
3) It is very disheartening that such a great compatriot like Alhaji Asari Dokunbo will descend so low to call one of the Ethnic groups of Biafra land slaves and another masters.
Throughout the history of the Biafran people, never was it recorded that any ethnic group invaded others and enslaved them.
The Igbos being the largest of them, were neither subjugated nor subjugated other people.
Yes it is true that, lots of Igbos were sold as slaves but it was done by fellow Igbos notably the Arochukwu slave traders through the coastal nations who acted as middle men of which Ijaws were one of them.
Alhaji Asari Dokunbo can enlighten the Igbos which Ijaw King or War Canoe Chief left the creeks in order to conquer and enslave the Igbos in the hinterlands of Biafra land.
The Biafra we seek to restore is still the same that encouraged the peaceful coexistence of all ethnic nations which led to the creations of multi-ethnic-cultural communities notably Arochukwu, Abiriba, Igbanke, etc.
If Alhaji Asari Dokunbo wants a Biafra of Master – Slave relationship, then he is free to create one but we won’t be partners in such a project.
The Biafra we seek, is one based on equal rights & privileges and not on Master – Slave relationships.
4) Alhaji Asari Dokunbo, you said I am a scam and fraud. I will be grateful if you can provide evidence of me diverting the contributions of fellow Biafrans for my personal use.
Remember that, only a stupid fraudster will dare confront Jubril.
May Elohim be the judge if I am a fraudster and should expose & replace me if I am guilty in His sight.
Alhaji Asari Dokunbo, we have come so far and we should not allow our oppressors to continue to divide and conquer our oppressed people.
If You Think My Style Of Struggle & Leadership Will Not Get Us Biafra, Kindly Tell Fellow Biafrans The Way Forward So That, They Can Join Your Rank and File With My Full Support & Blessings.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
