“Ndigbo has no other place to go and we have learnt our lessons during and after the civil war “We will rather die together than to allow our people to be slaughtered like a goat on daily basis”.

DSS Withdraws 11 Operatives Attached To Senate President, Bukola Saraki|RN

By Chukwu David

DSS withdraws 11 operatives attached to Senate President

The Department of State Services (DSS), yesterday, withdrew 11 of its operatives assigned to the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki. New Telegraph also learnt that the authorities of the Secret Police equally recalled some of its operatives attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

A source close to the Office of the President of the Senate, reliably told our correspondent that the DSS directed 11 of its operatives attached to Saraki to leave the office of the number three citizen and report back to the DSS headquarters with effect from 10a.m. today.

The source further said that there was no reason given whatsoever for the withdrawal, but there were speculations that the directive might have been at the instance of the Presidency.

The source also hinted that the action might be part of the strategy by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to intimidate and cow members of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc in the ruling party. Members of nPDP are likely to defect either to the opposition PDP or other parties and present a candidate to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections.

The withdrawal was, however, coming ahead of today’s meeting between the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the nPDP team, which will be led by Dogara.

Saraki is also a member of nPDP, the faction that broke away from the PDP in 2013 and supported the APC to win elections in the 2015 general polls. The nPDP had recently issued an ultimatum to APC for a meeting, complaining that it had been marginalised by the ruling party after helping them to dethrone the PDP from power in 2015.                (New Telegraph)

Facebook Inc (FB.O) Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg’s compensation rose 53.5 percent to $8.9 million in 2017, a regulatory filing showed on Friday, largely due to higher costs related to the 33-year old billionaire’s personal security.

About 83 percent of the compensation represented security-related expenses, while most of the rest were tied to Zuckerberg’s personal use of private aircraft.

Zuckerberg spent much of last year travelling after he pledged to visit all the U.S. states that he had not previously been to.

His security expenses climbed to $7.3 million in 2017 from $4.9 million a year earlier.

Menlo Park, California-based Facebook paid to buy, install and maintain security measures for Zuckerberg’s personal residences, which include properties in San Francisco and Palo Alto, the filing showed.

The Facebook board’s compensation committee authorised Zuckerberg’s security programme, the filing said, “to address safety concerns due to specific threats to his safety arising directly as a result of his position as our founder, Chairman, and CEO.”

Zuckerberg’s base salary was unchanged at $1, while his total voting power at Facebook rose marginally to 59.9 percent.

Facebook, which has consistently reported stronger-than-expected earnings over the past two years, has faced public outcry over its role in Russia’s alleged influence over the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Earlier this week, Zuckerberg emerged largely unscathed after facing hours of questioning from U.S. lawmakers on how the personal information of several million Facebook users might have been improperly shared with political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.   (Reuters)

The meeting is also being attended by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), as well as the Comptroller General of Immigrations (NIS), Mohammed Babandede.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not made known as at press time, the meeting may not be unconnected with the current security challenges in the country, particularly, the continued attacks by suspected herdsmen in parts of the country, especially the north-central states. (The Sun)
