A Message To The North: The South Is Getting Fed Up! |The Republican News

Archive photo: Abducted Kagara school by Fulani bandits

by Dr. Ugo Egbujo

I have a story to tell the North. I hope it receives it in good faith. I love the North. So I have decided to tell the North how his brother the South truly feels. The South loves the north but the South is getting fed up.

The truth may taste bitter but it sets free. I will throw away political correctness and let the North know how the South feels because the North has to sit up and shape up.

The South is getting fed up.

Today, it’s Boko Haram. Tomorrow it’s banditry. Yesterday, it was confounding mass illiteracy. And no mention has been made yet about the abiding mass obesity of the North.

Family resources are being wasted fighting useless fires!

The truth is, the South increasingly sees the North like a slothful temperamental brother that has stubbornly refused to go to school and has begun to keep the company of bad gangs.

So the North isn’t just a laid back family black sheep, it’s now the sort of black sheep that is bringing in wolves and troubles to impoverish and imperil the family.

And nothing rankles the South more than the fact that the North seems utterly oblivious of its predicaments and their toll on fortunes and future of the family. If the North understood the magnitude of its problems, its leaders will weep every day.

The South wants his brother the North to take out time and do some sober reflection in a pan Arewa village meeting. Their emirs, their generals, their billionaires, their Islamic clerics. So that the North can ask himself soul-searching questions about how he came to such a sorry pass.

Because nothing irritates the South more than the fact that the South sees the North, every day, chasing political shadows instead of chasing its children to school, instead of taking care of its ever-increasing number of young pregnant women.

The South is amused when he watches the North occupy himself, chasing population numbers, disfiguring meritocracy with the quota system and resisting power devolution instead of taking practical steps to save his children from poverty and illiteracy.

Yes, this is how the South feels. I know the North has things to tell the South too. It’s normal. But this is how the South feels.

The South is not an angel and the South is not without its own conspicuous sins. But the South can’t understand why a brother beset with so many crippling self-inflicted wounds could yet be so aloof, so arrogant, so enamoured of frivolity.

This is the North in the eyes of the South today: The picture of a backward brother in a poor family. The picture of a fat family liability.

I promised to tell the whole truth.

There is a feeling of disgust that seizes a brother when his own brother’s prodigal shortcomings and recklessness threatens to plunge the entire family into turmoil and shame. It solidifies into repugnance when rather than face his problems, perhaps, that brother takes more interest in claiming ‘firstsonship’ and talking about how his brother has lost respect for him. And rebuking sympathizers harshly, with reminders about groundnut pyramids and how he was once the prosperous one.

The truth is, the South has logged in its own eyes. The South might even suffer from bigotry. But it is indisputable that his brother’s slothfulness poses a more immediate calamity to the family.

The South wants the North to sit up and zip up. Yes, zip-up and stop breeding the way our great grandfathers ignorantly did when there was little else to do than marry and have children. The extended family lacks the resources to feed one hundred million children. And neighbours mock when our scrawny children go plate in hand begging for food.

The South wants the North to note how Fareed Zakaria painted Nigeria in glorious lights a couple of days ago. Nigeria has more percentage of PhD holders in America than China and the UK. Nigeria has a higher percentage of Bachelor’s degree holders in America than every other country. The CNN presenter told the world that Nigeria was rich in quality human resources.

That data is Nigeria’s but it is plainly the South’s. Because last year Zamfara with all its puritanism couldn’t get more than 20 students to write the National Common entrance Exams. It is indeed, an abomination. But have you seen any northern leader weep over this? Or call for a Jihad to fight educational backwardness and social injustice in the north?

So the South wants the North to produce only the children the North can feed and send them to good schools. The South doesn’t and can’t feel safe when his brother’s children rather than become doctors and lawyers are ending up in droves as angry street urchins.

The South doesn’t know how to say it, but he is fed up with the North dragging the family numbers down.

The South wants the North to see Boko Haram and banditry as wolves that can devour the entire family. The South wants the North to hold a village meeting and find a spiritual solution to the wolves. The South knows that his brother has a temper. But he is yet to see that temper unleashed on Boko Haram and banditry. He would like to see one Yerima or one Shinkafi stand up and issue a fatwa against Shekau and the insurgents. And follow it up by mobilizing 2 million volunteers into Borno. Because in actual sense the insurgents have blasphemed God and done incalculable damage to Islam.

The South knows the North loves Sharia. It doesn’t mind. But it wants the north to open the windows of its mind and excommunicate religious intolerance.

I’ve come to tell the North how the South feels. I didn’t come to mince words. The North must discard his pride and face his perilous reality. His farmlands are lying waste because of banditry while his children roam the streets with chronic malnutrition and preventable diseases.

Northern leaders can’t be frolicking in Abuja and Kaduna plotting 2023!

The South knows that it also has some rogues as leaders but it wants the North to stop scratching and smiling, and start treating, in earnest, the craw-craw of having about the worst set of leaders in a badly governed Africa.

Alhamdulillah! God bless the North.

Dasuki, Sowore Release: Buhari Bowed To Pressure From The USA After Years Of Disobedience To Court Orders

Buhari, Sowore and Dasuki

So many Nigerians, socio-cultural organisations have reacted to the sudden release of Sambo Dasuki, Omoyele Sowore in a fashion not reminiscent of the tyrannical tendencies of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his blatant disobedience of several court orders from Nigerian courts and ECOWAS courts.

Buhari has refused and disobeyed court orders to release Sambo Dasuki in the ast four year, in what many think was based on simple personal grievances with Buhari.

Activist and convener of the RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, in the evening of Tuesday, December 24, was released alongside Col. Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser.

Dasuki was seen here for the first time in four years reunited with his family praying and being hugged by family members.

Dasuki has been detained under the pretence which Buhari and his cabal called “threat to national security” a term usually used by tyrants to detain opposition or someone they fear and used to obfuscate the unsuspecting public.

Buhari met the new United States Ambasssdor and it was alleged that she ordered President Muhammadu Buhari to release all political and religious prisoners or he and his regime may face serious consequences from the international community. Few days before the release of these men, the United Congressmen have addressed a serious worded letter to the Nigerian Attorney General, Mr Abubakar Mallami urging him to respect the rule of law and democratic tenets of Nigeria and release Omoyele Sowore.

Mrs Mary Beth Leonard in the conversation with Buhari who sounded very traumatised said that ” the recent listing of Nigeria for human rights concerns created an impression that some people were being unfarily treated or marginalised in the country. I know that those with access have created an impression of being marginalised, but I sit here with clear conscience and I took an oath and I am honouring the office”.

Ambbassador Mary, who was not deterred told Buhari that “Nigeria was listed in the watch list to deepen the conversation on humanitarian situation in the country, especially with religious leaders and mediators”

Many would observe that Buhari’s government has overseen thousands of deaths of mostly Christians in the hands of Fulani herdsmen, who are largely Muslims. He dragged his feet and refused to designate the group as terrorists but rushed to proscribe the Biafran group IPOB as terrorists. Also, the Shiite group led by Sheikh El-Zakyzaky whose crime was only a religious march, which allegedly blocked the passage of Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur J. Buratai.

It is obvious that the United States have over time observed the trends in the tyrannical administration of Muhammadu Buhari and has decided that it is time to address his dictatorship and stiffling of religious rights of Christians and Shiites group in Nigeria.

The United States Congressman Chris Smith earlier yesterday said that “Buhari must account for all the killings by Fulani herdsmen”. This is a very serious matter that could take international dimension if care is not taken. Buhari could be brought to international court to give account of the killings by Fulani herdsmen and state what measures his government took to check on their activities, if any.

Some Nigerians have expressed their feelings about how the man they have seen as a tyrant, who doesn’t bow to court orders or the judiciary, rather have this arrogant attitude towards them has bowed to little pressure from the United States.

The question is would Buhari begin now to turn a new leaf or go back to his old ways? But it seems the new Ambassador of the United States is one who will not let Buhari behave as he has been doing in his last four years as a tyrant

United States Plotting To Destroy Nigeria, Says Lai Mohammed |The Republican News

Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed

BY AKPOS OGHENETEGA

The Federal Government has accused the United States (U.S.) of attempting to sow seed of religious mistrust among the various religious groups in Nigeria with its recent report.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the Federal Government rejected the U.S. designation of Nigeria as “a country that engages in or tolerates severe violations of religious freedom”.

Mohammed said that the iniquitous tag stemmed from an orchestrated narrative that had long been discredited.

He stressed that the people of Nigeria enjoyed unfettered freedom to practise their religion.

The minister blamed failed politicians and disgruntled elements – some of them supposedly respected leaders, for latching on to religion as their trump card, especially in the run-up to the last general elections.

He said it was unfortunate that the U.S. fell for the antics of “the discontented and the unpatriotic few, who will not hesitate to hang Nigeria out to dry on the altar of their inordinate ambition and their sheer animosity towards the Buhari-led administration”.

He said the Nigerian government was aware of how the political opposition in particular, had spared no resources in deriving political capital from the various security challenges in the country.

“The deliberate effort to give religious colouration to the farmers-herders clashes and the Boko Haram insurgency, in particular, has undoubtedly helped to mislead the U.S. into concluding that the government is doing little or nothing to guarantee religious freedom in the country.

“But, as we have always said, the farmers-herders clashes have nothing to do with religion, but everything to do with environmental and socio-economic realities.

“The religious tag given to the clashes has no basis in fact, but it is very convenient for those who will very easily give the dog a bad name just to hang it.

“On its part, the Boko Haram terrorists are extreme fanatics who do not subscribe to the tenets of any religion, in spite of their pretence to Islamic adherence,” he said.

The minister said the good news was that the government had succeeded in curbing the farmers-herders clashes through the implementation of proactive and multi-dimensional strategy, yielding remarkable results.

He added the government had largely defeated the Boko Haram insurgency.

“On the El-Zakzaky issue, which was referred to in the report by the U.S. government, it is purely a criminal matter, which is being handled by a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.

The Minister stressed that while the government welcomed constructive criticism from any quarter, it rejected any attempt to sow seed of mistrust among the various religious groups in the country.

Kano Became Sharia State, Asked Christian Girls To Wear Veil, Started Hisbah, Zakkat — Wike Replies Shekarau

Rivers state governor, H.E. Nyesom Wike, Former governor of Kano state under whom Sharia was introduced in the state

Shekarau, had in a statement on Thursday condemned the alleged demolition of the mosque and wondered why the Rivers state government would take such actions in a secular country like Nigeria.

The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has carpeted the former governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau over his comments on the alleged demolition of the Rainbow Town mosque in Trans-Amadi area of Port Harcourt, the state capital.

In the statement personally signed by him, the former Kano State governor was much more perturbed by the declaration of Rivers State as a complete Christian state by Wike.

In his reaction, Wike noted that as a governor of Kano State, Shekarau introduced Sharia law and officially made the state a Muslim State. This action, according to Wike, was premised on the fact that over 95 per cent of Kano people are Muslims, adding that the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo did not stop him neither did Nigerians question his decision.

Speaking through his Aide on electronics media, Simeone Nwakaudu in an article, Governor Wike recalled, “In 2008, Kano State Government under the leadership of Ibrahim Shekarau demolished Christ the King Catholic Church.

“The Kano State Urban Planning Development Agency (KANUPDA) demolished the Church because the Church lacked Certificate of Occupancy. Shekarau’s Administration said the structure of the church at Na’ibawa in Kumbotso local government was removed, after serving them a notice, advising them to prove its legitimacy or removed the church.

“In November 2003, Shekarau sworn-in Hisbah, Zakkat, Sharia Commission Members to consolidate his declaration that Kano is a Muslim State. The establishments’ members were sworn-in at Sani Abacha Stadium after a bill was passed into law by the State House of Assembly for the creation of the establishments. These were agencies of Kano State that promoted one religion to the detriment of others,” the article read in part.

He went further to recall that Shekarau compelled all Christian girls in his State to wear Hijab. “Those who refused to wear hijab under the leadership of Shekarau were asked to withdraw and leave Kano State. He burnt books believed not to promote the Islamic religion”.

Wike stressed that his declaration that Rivers is a Christian State is a statement of fact, adding that well over 98 per cent of the indigenous population are Christians. He promised to continue to promote religious freedom and tolerance in the state.

JUST IN: You Cannot License PFN Pastors In Kaduna, Court Rules Against El-Rufai |The Republican News

Kaduna state governor, Alhaji Nasir El-Rufai

A Kaduna State High Court has ruled that the plan by the Kaduna State government to issue licences to the pastors of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) using the Religious Regulatory Bill is a gross violation of their fundamental human rights, which guarantees freedom of association and freedom of religion. Thus, inconsistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). Therefore it is hereby declared illegal.

The judge, Hon Justice D. Gwadah further added that the actions of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in proceeding to pass the bill into law despite the pending court proceedings and the subsisting court injunction restraining the action, “is an affront to this honourable court”.

This was declared today, June 19, 2019 in a ruling on the case instituted by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Kaduna chapter since 2016 against Kaduna State Governor (Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai), Kaduna State House of Assembly and the Attorney General of Kaduna State over the Kaduna State Religious Regulatory Bill.

The lawyers representing the respondents, in reaction to the judgment said that their clients will go higher, meaning Gov El-Rufai and the Kaduna State House of Assembly will appeal the ruling.

But Barr S. A. Akani (lead counsel to PFN) who briefly addressed the press after the ruling, expressed satisfaction in the judgment on behalf of his client, the PFN.

Arise News247 notes that the Kaduna State PFN that instituted the case is a registered trustees body. Thus, PFN is an entity that has the power to sue and be sued. However, the power is limited to act on behalf of the members of the body. Hence, the court ruling is applicable to the members of PFN. Though by implication, other Christians and Pastors can benefit indirectly from the ruling.

Night Club Worth Over N0.5bn Demolished As Stripper With Islamic Hijab Danced In Abuja |RN

Stripper wearing islamic hijab

By Chibiko Ikenna Offor

The Republican News was informed that a stripper performed in a night club wearing an Islamic head cover (hijab) at the FCT, Abuja, the capital of Nigeria and this prompted an unimaginable response from FCT Authority.

The Republican News was told that FCT authorities responded by demolishing the entire property valued at over 500million Naira.

How such action warranted such response in a secular country like Nigeria is something that bugles the minds of many Nigerians

Please don’t get me wrong, I do not subscribe to any form of religious insensitivity in a secular “federal arrangement” such as in Nigeria.
But by what authority or judicial pronouncement was that property destroyed?

Is there any law in Nigeria constitution or the FCT criminalizing nightlife or “stripping entertainment”?

Has Nigeria as a country become already an Islamic state under the current government that would warrant such abuse of the law in Abuja, which is not under Sharia law?

If the Minister got away with this, a very dangerous precedence is being set in Nigeria’s federal capital whose consequences would better be imagined.

Let’s hear your opinion.
