The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has taken a swipe at the American Court that ordered the arrest of DCP Abba Kyari, and dismissed what it described as “the attempted intimidation of a police officer right inside his independent fatherland”.

In a statement signed by the group’s National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, AYCF sounded a note warning that “nothing must happen to him( DCP Kyari)”.

The group rejected the purported plan to arrest DCP Kyari, describing the move by the FBI as “totally unacceptable, a slap on the sensibility of our compatriots and a ridicule on one of our finest crack detectives”.

The group said it would keep a tab on the happenings on the matter, stressing that there was no justification for “singling out one of Nigeria’s most effective and efficient police officers for castigation.”

AYCF, therefore, urged “all Nigerians who are truly patriotic to stand behind a man who has made an unrivalled mark on the sands of time by diligently serving his fatherland.”

They called on relevant stakeholders in the country, especially civil society organizations to “rally round this officer who risked his life in multiple operations across Nigeria, a fact proved many times through BBC news coverage of such operations”.

” While we are conscious of our sovereignty as a nation, we demand justice for a man with unrivalled records of detective capabilities in the recent history of Nigeria”, the youths said.

Hushpuppi and DCP Abba Kyari

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered immediate suspension of DCP Abba Kyari, the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force, pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigations surrounding him.

The IGP, in his letter to the Police Service Commission, dated 31st July, 2021, noted that the recommendation for the suspension of the officer, is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the Force.

In a Press Statement released by Force Police Public Relations Officer [FPRO] CP Frank Mba “The IGP further noted that the suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for the NPF Special Investigation Panel to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against DCP Abba Kyari without interference”.

The statement affirms that “The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer”.

The Special Investigation Panel (SIP), according to CP Mba, comprises four (4) Senior Police Officers, and is headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).

Mba said “The SIP, inter alia, is to undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari by the US Government as contained in relevant documents that have been availed the NPF by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)”.

“The SIP is also to obtain detailed representation of DCP Abba Kyari to all the allegations levelled against him, conduct further investigations as it deems fit, and submit recommendations to guide further actions by the Force Leadership on the matter”.

Meanwhile, the IGP has reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to the Rule of Law and assured the public of the sanctity of the probe as well as the absolute respect for the rights and privileges of the officer throughout the period of the investigations.

$11m Fraud: US Court Jails Nigerian Fraudster, Obi ‘Invictus’ Okeke For 10 Years |The Republican News

Obinwanne Okeke better known as Invictus Obi has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Chief District Judge, Rebecca Smith, for fraud to the tune of $11m.

The Nigerian national was jailed for involvement in a computer-based intrusion fraud scheme that caused approximately $11m in known losses to his victims, according to the judge.

“Through subterfuge and impersonation, Obinwanne Okeke engaged in a multi-year global business email and computer hacking scheme that caused a staggering $11 million in losses to his victims,” said Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

“Today’s sentence further demonstrates EDVA’s and FBI’s worldwide reach in vigorously pursuing justice on behalf of American victims and others and holding international cybercriminals accountable, no matter where they commit their crimes.”

Court documents sighted by The Punch, revealed that Okeke, 33, operated a group of companies known as the Invictus Group based in Nigeria and elsewhere.

Obi was once celebrated as one of the Forbes Billionaire under 30. (Punch)
