Buhari Is Not Materialistic, Says Oba Akiolu |The Republican News

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, on Saturday said President Muhammadu Buhari Buhari is a non-materialistic leader after comparing him with past leaders.

“If you watch the life of President Buhari, he is not materialistically minded like the other people,” Akiolu said.

The Lagos monarch made this remark when the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, led the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria to his palace on a courtesy visit.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the visit was part of the activities for the 2018 Conference of Speakers which commenced on Friday in Lagos.

“God loves this country and we are very lucky. My appeal to you, my sons and daughters are that let peace return to this country. Nigeria is not going to break.

“If all of us will cooperate, Nigeria will move forward. We are all one and we should regard ourselves as that.

“Cooperate with the national government. I believe in the corporate existence of Nigeria,” he said.

Akiolu urged the speakers to help address the challenges facing Buhari’s administration.

He lamented that the major problem of Lagos was the concession of Apapa Port.

“You have seen our problem. This is not politics. I beg all of you to join your voices with us as we request for a Special Status for Lagos State, ” he said.

He urged politicians to have the welfare of the citizens at heart and ensure the security of lives and property.

The Oba, a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, called for more funding for security agencies.    (NAN)

2019: Alausa Is Already Occupied, Says Oba Akiolu |The Republican News

By Moshood Adebayo

Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu I, began campaign for the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s second term when he asked those nursing any ambition to contest the 2019 governorship election in the state to shelve the idea.

Oba Akiolu based his backing of Ambode on what he described as the governor’s performance.

The monarch said this at the 21st convocation ceremony of the Lagos State University (LASU) held at the university’s auditorium complex.

The monarch said Ambode’s performance in the last two years has been wonderful and should be given second term of four years in office.

“That was why, about nine months to the 2015 governorship election, I told residents of Lagos that Ambode will be the next governor of the state, either they vote or not.

“Few days ago, one of the aspirants greeted me and alleged that I halted his ambition.

“No one should come out in 2019 and declare his ambition. The only way to avoid not wasting their money is to support Ambode and his deputy to rule Lagos for the next six years,” said Oba Akiolu.

To improve on the learning experience at the university, Ambode revealed plans by his administration to build a 6,000-bed hostel within the campus of the institution.

The governor, who said the project would be in partnership with the private sector to make the tertiary institution emerge as great citadel of learning and pride of all, commended management and governing council of the institution for the professionalism with which the affairs of LASU had been piloted and promised to invest in infrastructure in all tertiary institutions in the state.

Ambode urged them to build on the ranking of the institution as the Best State University in Nigeria to become one of the best five universities in the country by 2020.  (The Sun)
