New Jersey Supreme Court, reportedly has ruled that siblings of one biological mother have the legal right to marry and build a family.
The United States court’s ruling delivered by the Supreme Court, on New Jersey siblings, James and Victoria Banes won the landmark ruling on right to marry each other, after a prolonged legal battle with the unites states government.
In a 5-to-4 ruling, five judges unanimously granted the appeal by James Banes, 41, and Victoria Banes, 38, today after a ten-year-long battle.
James and Victoria Banes, when interviewed, said they took the legal step for the “millions of Americans who have consensual incestuous relationships and who are living in fear”.
“Incest has been practised by humans since the dawn of time. If Adam and Eve hadn’t done it, the human race would not be here today,” James Banes told reporters after his historic victory at the Supreme Court.
In his part, Lawyer to Banes family, Julianne Grey, said that “criminalising incestuous marriage while first-cousin marriage was legal in the state of New Jersey was a nonsensical and discriminatory measure”.
“Why am I allowed to bang my cousin but not my sister? It just doesn’t make any sense,” James Banes criticized outside of court.
“We’ve always dreamed of having a big family, now this dream will become a reality” added Victoria Banes, who also told reporters she is pregnant and expecting twins.
New Jersey state laws only allowed first-cousin marriages but since the landmark ruling, New Jersey is now the only state in the USA to also allow incestuous marriages, Vanguard News reports.
Express the four outcome, the couple, who was currently facing up to 15 years in jail, said that they were now planning to start a large family and enjoy their newly found freedom.

On 17th February, 2005, my husband brought her home as my house help. She was smaller than l wanted. I needed a much bigger girl, but the mum could only allow her as the elder sister was elsewhere. The only option was to manage her, but managing meant that l had to nurse her as she was too small to even wash her own clothes, the breakable kitchenwares etc.
It wasn’t also easy to raise a child with certain orientations.
But l tried. When the task became too tedious,
I packaged her home, but the father gave us a mind boggling question: if she is your daughter, will you throw her away? Please, train her as yours. I want her different.
As stunning as that question sounded, l thank God that l took that challenge seriously and to my heart.
I teach, I scream, I plead, l appeal and l advice…
To make sure she turns out better than she would.
Sometimes, she makes me furious, laugh, cry, and proud, just like now.
From Primary 2, she had gone through to secondary, made her papers, have trained on computer literacy before going for skill acquisition.
Today, she has moved to a higher level. She is matriculating at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, and l am so happy that our 13 years together is not a waste after all.
She has long ceased to be a maid in my home.
She is now Aunty’s Auntie, my little sister, my children’s Auntie. And no one knows she is not my sibling.
Uchechi, today is the beginning of a new life for you.
We are happy for you. Sky is your jumping pad.
We pray that you graduate with flying colours. And we continue to pray for financial breakthrough so that you do not suffer any stress concerning your education.
Congratulations, dear. We are super proud of you.”

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two pastors, Chukwuka Stephen and Ejim Stephen, for allegedly killing their brother-in-law, Peter Chukwuyem, in the Papa-Ibafo area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects, while living with Chukwuyem, were using the frontage of his house to conduct church services.
He stated that Chukwuka and Ejim became embittered when Chukwuyem stopped them from conducting church services in the frontage of his house, adding that when the victim went to the farm, the brothers allegedly waylaid and killed him.
Oyeyemi said, “Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two self-acclaimed pastors, Chuckwuka Stephen, 43, and Ejim Stephen, 39, for killing their brother in-law, Peter Chukwuyem, on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.
“The victim, who was married to the elder sister of the two suspects, brought them from their village in Delta State to Papa-Ibafo in Ogun State, where they lived with the couple for some time. While they were living with the deceased, they were using the frontage of his house for their church activities, but when their conduct was no longer pleasant to their brother-in-law, he sent them away from the place, which led to them nursing animosity against the deceased.
“On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, the deceased went to his farm with two of his teenage daughters in the morning and met the suspects on the farm. Because of the presence of the two girls, the suspects were unable to do anything to him for fear of being exposed. In the evening of the same day, the deceased went back to the farm alone and the suspects, who had been waiting for him on the farm, accosted him and butchered him to death.”
Oyeyemi said when it was getting late and the deceased was nowhere to be found, his wife traced him to the farm and found his corpse.
He stated that the police arrested the suspects after the daughters of the deceased informed them that they saw Chukwuka and Ejim on their father’s farm in the morning. He added that during interrogation, the suspects owned up to the crime.
The PPRO said, “It was when the deceased didn’t return on time that his wife traced him to the farm and found his dead body. She subsequently went to the Ibafo Police Station, where she lodged a complaint. The two brothers were later arrested by the police at Ibafo based on the accounts of the two daughters of the deceased, who informed the police that they saw the two suspects earlier on their father’s farm.
“On interrogation, the suspects denied killing their brother-in-law, but when they were confronted by the two daughters of the deceased, they confessed to killing the deceased on his farm, because he deprived them the continuous use of his frontage for their church activities.
“The corpse of the deceased was subsequently removed and deposited in the General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.”
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution. (Punch)

Suspect, Peter Nielsen and victims, wife and daughter, Zainab Ali-Nielsen and Petra Nielsen
A Nigerian artiste, Zainab Ali-Nielsen, popularly known as Alizee, and her four-year-old daughter, Petra, have been reportedly murdered by her Italian husband, Peter Nielsen.
They were allegedly murdered in the family’s residence at Ocean Parade, Banana Island in the early hours of Thursday.
Although details of the circumstances surrounding the incident were still sketchy, our correspondent learnt that Peter had been picked up by the police.
The corpses were said to have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
The report said the native of Kogi State had signed a two-year record deal with an Asian record label, Petra Entertainment in 2017, which reportedly earned her a brand new Ford Explorer, a house on Banana Island and international distribution with affiliates of her record company in Asia.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect for murder, said a crime scene investigative team had been deployed in the house.
He said, “The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered the arrest of the suspect and he is in police custody. It is pre-emptive now to ascertain the cause of the incident. The CP has dispatched crime scene investigators to the place to pick pieces of evidence for analysis which can be used for prosecution.
“The command has also written the Embassy of the suspect that the police are investigating the case.” (Punch)
A simple Facebook post by Dr Obinna Oke about his childhood friend, one Joshua Nworie, soon resulted into ripples of blessings, literally, for the Nworie family.
Obinna’s friend, Joshua, was born in 1986, but his was a short life that ended in 2009.
Joshua died at a tender age of 23, leaving a severely poor, widowed mother and four siblings who had no viable means of fending for themselves.
The family lives in Nsokara, Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Obinna, in a late 2017 Facebook post, narrated how he made it a point of duty to visit his late friend’s family in their village, Nsokara, taking little gifts along each time.
The young doctor says after some time, Joshua’s mother, Mrs Nworie, wondered aloud if the regular gifts Obinna brought for the family was actually not a repayment for an unstated debt he probably owed his late friend, Joshua.
The young man noted that this was not borne out of malice on the part of Mrs Nworie, but was rather a pleasant surprise for the bereaved mother that a ‘mere’ friend could be this faithful and kindly to a family of his late friend.
This did not discourage Obinna from being a benefactor, however little, to the Nwories. He explained that Mrs Nworie was almost going blind with cataract, but their finance — or, lack of it — effectively prevented her from seeking medical help while time ticked for her eyes!
Meanwhile, while Obinna’s post attracted the usual Facebook responses of like, love, etc., one Mr Nnamdi Ikeagu had a better response.
Ikeagu, whose Facebook timeline indicates that he is a banker, had a better idea: He donated a four-bedroom bungalow to the indigent family!
Mrs Nworie also received medical attention for her ailing eyes, courtesy of Joshua’s friend, Obinna.
The entire Nsokara village was agog as Obinna unveiled the new house, handing the keys to an ecstatic Mrs Nworie who felt it was a dream from which she wouldn’t want to wake up.
Obinna Oke took to his Facebook post to thank those who made the house possible, with photos of the event trending on the social media.
Obinna wrote: “I sincerely appreciate all of you who came out yesterday for the dedication and handover of this four-bedroom edifice to Joshua’s family.
“Honestly, we did not expect such a huge number of you. The entire village trooped out to behold the rarest act of benevolence and kindness for a bereft, poor widow by a total stranger, Mr Nnamdi Ikeagu.”
Obinna also acknowledged Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Polycarp Nworie Chibueze; parish priest of St. Charles’ Catholic Church, Nsokara, Rev. Fr Paulinus Nweke; Rev. Fr Paschal Tochukwu Ekediegwu, who blessed the house and dedicated it to God as the representative of the donor, Mr Nnamdi Ikeagu.
“Thank you so much, Fr Paschal, for driving all the way from Enugu and for all the rigours you passed through to find us. God will continuously bless you,” Obinna prayed.
Writing further, Obinna enthused, “Finally to the ‘saint’, the best of humankind who, single-handed, built this multi-million (naira) magnificent edifice and all therein for Joshua’s family and who provided three times surplus refreshments for all who came, Mr Nnamdi Ikeagu…
“You turned a family once used as the best example of abject poverty, penury and calamity to a family now envied by all in Nsokara village!
“I want to tell you something, sir. Aside, God, you are the Messiah, the father, the mother, the brother and the sister that Joshua’s family knows today and would ever know.
“The prayers of Mama, Ukamaka, Jacob and the entire family shall always pour out for you. And so are mine, and indeed the entire village and everyone…
“When asked how she felt, Mama Joshua was trembling. She was terribly shaken. Her lips were smacking. She murmured, producing inaudible sounds. Ukamaka was crying. These are feelings I will not attempt to describe…
“Thanks to all of you who invested in Joshua’s story; all of you who gave, prayed, shared, liked or commented. This sweet end to such a bitter (story) is what I never anticipated. This is the best reward for my writing. I feel so accomplished courtesy of you all especially Nnamdi Ikeagu.
“I know Joshua is happy now and prays for each of you wherever he is. And so is beloved Grace. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
“Please dear friends, always remember this: ‘Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38.’
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s father has said it was “God’s plan” for him to have a child with his step-daughter.Errol Musk, 72, described the baby boy he had with step-daughter Jana Bezuidenhout, 30, as “exquisite.”Despite the fact that Mr Musk married Ms Bezuidenhout’s mother, Heidi, when Jana was four, he said he does not consider her his step-daughter.
Mr Musk and Ms Bezuidenhout’s mother had two children together before divorcing after 18 years of marriage.
A source said that Elon Musk was ‘outraged’ when he found out about the baby (AFP/Getty Images)
His son, tech billionaire Elon Musk was allegedly “outraged” when he heard about the baby.
A relation to the family told the MailOnline: “The whole family was outraged when we found out. This is the reason why Elon is so angry with Errol. He is the only father she has ever known. And now he is the father of her child as well.”
The entrepreneur, who is in a relationship with actress Amber Heard, previously described his father as “evil” in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
An Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Monday terminated a 25-year-old marriage, following persistent pleas from an estranged woman that she would go no further in the relationship.
Petitioner Blessing Adeosun got her wish and ended the troubled union, having described her pastor husband as a deadbeat, who was not good at anything.
Blessing, 49, had approached the court for the dissolution of the marriage, saying that Lukmon Adeosun had abandoned his responsibility as a husband and father since he received `pastoral calling’.
“For the past three years, Lukmon abandoned us to live in the church all in the name of pastoral work.
“I shouldered all the responsibilities of paying house rent, children’s school fees and feeding.”
Blessing, a nurse, said that her husband also accused her of infidelity.
“He accused me of having an affair with a pastor, who I always invite to pray before taking delivery of pregnant women.”
She said that Lukmon was now trying to claim a house she single-handedly built with her money because of her desire to end the marriage.
Lukmon, however, explained that he hardly stayed at home because of his missionary work, saying that Blessing had started acting strangely when he became a pastor.
“My wife’s attitude suddenly changed, she started attending clubs and other social events.
“As a pastor’s wife she always absented herself from church activities,’’ he said, confirming also that he had accused Blessing of infidelity.
“I accused her of having an affair with another pastor because that pastor had told me several times to send my wife away from that she is an agent of the devil.
“So, when I started seeing them together regularly, I concluded that they are having an affair.”
Lukmon, 51, said that he was claiming his wife’s house because what belonged to his wife also belonged to him.
He, however, begged the court not to grant Blessing’s wish for the dissolution of the marriage because he was still in love with her.
Delivering his judgment, the President of the court, Mr Akin Akinniyi, noted that the petitioner was adamant, in spite of mediations from the court and family interventions.
“The petitioner refused to shift ground after several interventions, which indicates that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.
“Therefore, the court has no choice than to grant the prayer of the petitioner; in spite of the fact that the husband still claims he loves her.
“The court pronounces the marriage between Blessing Adeosun and Lukmon Adeosun dissolved today. Both parties henceforth, cease to be husband and wife.
“Each of you should go on your separate ways unmolested. The court wishes both of you well in your new journeys of life.
“The first two children, who have attained the age of maturity, are free to stay with either parent but the other two, who are under 18 years of age should remain with their mother,” Akinniyi ruled. (NAN)
