Man Kills Wife, Stepson After Sex In Bush

Nigerian-police

Mudiaga Affe, Calabar

A 35-year-old man from Ikot-Okpora village in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, Okon Ubem, has allegedly killed his wife, Eka Imaobong, after having sex with her on the farm.

The suspect, who will soon be charged to court for murder, is also accused of killing his eight-year-old stepson identified as Godswill at the same scene of the incident.

The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, stated this in Calabar while addressing journalists.

Inuwa said the suspect was arrested on May 13, 2017, following a tip-off by one John Bassey, adding that he had confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court.

“On May 13, 2017, at about 1500 hours, one John Bassey (male) of Ikot-Okpora village in Biase LGA reported to the Divisional Police headquarters in Akpet Central that one of his tenants, Okon Ubem, went to farm where he murdered his wife, Eka Imaobong, and her eight-year-old son, Godswill.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court soon,” he said.

In an interview with Southern City News, Ubem alleged that he killed his wife because she stole his N40,000.

He admitted that he murdered the stepson because the eight-year-old boy insulted him.

Ubem, who did not show remorse for the dastardly act, said he murdered the wife after making love to her in the bush.

“She stole my N40,000. So, I went to meet her in the farm and killed her. Yes, I made love to her before killing her. I also killed the stepson because he abused me,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police has confirmed the arrest of four persons for unlawful possession of 4,555 national identity cards bearing different names.

He said that on further interrogation, the suspects disclosed that an unidentified employee of the Independent National Electoral Commission gave the identity cards to them.

But it was learnt that the suspects had reportedly broken into the state office of the National Identity Management Commission where they stole the cards.

Inuwa said, “On May 19, 2017, at about 1730 hours, operatives of the X-squad unit of the command accosted one Donald Okon and Collins Cyril while attempting to escape at a drug joint along Eyo Edem Street in Calabar. Upon search, the following items were found with them: One voter’s card in the name of Sam Godwin and 4,555 national identity cards bearing different names. On interrogation, they claimed that an INEC worker (name unknown) gave the cards to them. The investigation is ongoing,” he said. (Punchng.com)

My Husband Police Case Is Beyond My Control, Says Mercy Aigbe

The saga in the home of the Gentry’s seems to be far from over as star actress, Mercy Aigbe’s husband, Lanre Gentry was remanded in prison during the week for failure to meet his bail condition.

When Saturday Beats reached out to the ace actress, she made it known that she has nothing to do with her husband’s predicament. She explained that the matter was reported to the appropriate agencies and they are handling the case according to the law.

She said, “The case is no longer between my husband and I. It is now between the Office of Public Defenders, Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and my husband. The officer is the one handling the case.”

Aigbe in an emotional laden voice said that she wants her husband to know the gravity of what he has done because till date, she is still coughing out blood due to the beatings she got from him.

“I cannot be washing my dirty linen in public and that is why I do not want to go into details of my marriage. It is not in my place to send him to jail. I only reported to the appropriate authorities and I just need him to show remorse for what he has done to me. He does not know the gravity of what he has done to me, the pains that I feel right now and the trauma I have gone through. I am still in pains and I am bleeding internally because I am still coughing out blood. Instead of him to be remorseful, he was busy going online to say all sorts of things about me and concocting lies. He has been fabricating stories to taint my image because he knows I am the one with a reputation at stake. I intentionally did not say anything even though I have proof of everything I have to say. Instead of my husband to show some sense of responsibility and own up to what he did, he was busy dragging my name in the mud,” Aigbe said.

She told Saturday Beats that she endured a lot in her seven-year-old marriage but she stayed put because of her children and the people who look up to her as a role model. She said, “I endured all the things that I went through in his hands because of my children and also because of the fact that people look up to me as a role model. I have been through a lot and I pray and fast a lot so that things would go on smoothly. I have been praying and enduring a lot but this last time, the beating was brutal and he almost killed me.”

The actress told Saturday Beats that Gentry kept claiming that she was promiscuous but that it is a false statement aimed at tarnishing her image. Aigbe said it was never reported that she was promiscuous while she was a single lady, so why would she start such an act as a married woman.

“Before I got married, there was no scandal about me being promiscuous, no one could say that I was sleeping around; so why would I now do such as a married woman? If I were that promiscuous like he claims, how come no journalist has ever reported such stories about me? I have been working so hard to build my brand and now he wants to rubbish it,” she said.

She said that he husband’s major problem is his anger and although she had advised him to go for anger management classes, he refused.

“The problem with him is that he cannot control his anger and I have advised him on several occasions to see a therapist or enrol in anger management class to learn how to control his temper but he refused. He gets violent whenever he is angry and that is his problem. There is no way a couple would not fight but it does not always have to lead to physical violence. On that fateful day, he hit my head on the wall just because I found out that he was having an affair with someone very close to me and we had an argument. He came to beat me at my tailor’s place. He even beat my make-up artiste and broke her hand. It was from that place that I was rushed to the hospital very late that night. When he was beating me, he was acting as if he was possessed. Ever since he had been beating me, he had never beaten me to this extent. It was as if he had made up his mind to kill me or blind me so that my career would end. I don’t know why he is doing all this. I have offered to take him to church but whenever we get there, he would refuse to enter. I tried all my best. If only he went for therapy, all this would not have happened and I don’t have to stay with him till he kills me. Imagine if I had died that day, I wonder what kind of cover up story he would have released to the public,” the actress said.

She made it clear that she was fighting for her life. “I am fighting for my life because if I die there would be no image to protect. I just want him to sign an undertaking that nothing would happen to me because a man who is capable of sending thugs to the house is capable of anything. Someone who can set me up and lie that I have mental illness can do anything. He should sign the undertaking and we should go our different ways. If not, I would leave the case to the appropriate agency and the law would take its full course,” Aigbe said.  (Punchng.com)

Olanrewaju Gentry, the husband of ace Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, has been remanded in the Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, after he was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, gave him a bail condition in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

However, before he could meet the bail conditions, the presiding magistrate had closed for the day.

He was subsequently remanded in prison.

Mercy Aigbe had accused her estranged husband of seven years of assaulting her repeatedly.

The case was said to have been reported to the Area F Police Command as many Nigerians called for the arrest and prosecution of the suspect, who at a time was reported to be at large.

The 52-year-old, however, turned himself in on Tuesday and was subsequently arraigned in court.

The arraignment, which took place in Court 1, Ikeja, was witnessed by officials and representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Domestic and Sexual Assault Response Team, and the Office of the Public Defender.

Olanrewaju was arraigned by one Woman Inspector, Egbogun Katherine, on three counts bordering on conduct likely to cause breach of the peace, physical assault, and causing grievous bodily harm.

The charges read in part, “That you, Olanrewaju Gentry…on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Mercy Aigbe, by beating her with blows all over her body, thereby committing an offence.

“That you did assault one Mercy Aigbe, by giving her blows on her nose and blood started gushing out, which also caused her grievous bodily harm, thereby committing an offence.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Peter N., said the offences were punishable under sections 157, 168 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected summary trial.

His defence counsel asked for his bail in liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Aje-Afunwa, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties, one of which must have a house within the jurisdiction of the court, must submit their tax verification documents and house addresses to the police.

However, the defendant could not meet the bail conditions before the close of work and was subsequently remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned till July 12, 2017.
