The Imo state claim to have neutralised 7 members of the Unknown Gunmen who allegedly were responsible for the death of Ahmed Gulak, who was murdered on his way to the Sam Mbakwe airport in Imo state.
The police in their press release made these claims and that has raised few concerns as how they were sure that they got the right people and not simply wasting innocent youths and frame them up for a crime they knew nothing about.
The speed which the Intelligence Services rushed to blame IPOB for the killing and the rush by the police to already identify and neutralise the alleged suspects, raises some serious concerns.
The press release is below.

The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the untenable allegation by the security agencies that IPOB was responsible for the assassination of former presidential aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak on his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri Imo State.
We therefore state without equivocations that IPOB knows nothing about the said assassination. In the first place, what threat did the late Gulak constitute to our cause to warrant his elimination? We had nothing in common with him and could not have in any way killed him.
Pointing accusing fingers at IPOB for this barbaric act is only meant to divert attention away from the real masterminds. This is the same way terrorists in security uniform commit various atrocities in South East and turn around to blame IPOB for their crimes just to tarnish our global reputation. This is purely a smokescreen to justify their long awaited plan to declare another special military operation in the Eastern region to kill more innocent Biafrans.
Instead of the security agencies to properly investigate the incident and possible factors they were switch to accuse IPOB of a crime we know nothing about. Did IPOB have the itinerary of the late Gulak to have waylaid him at the airport?
Before linking IPOB with the crime the jaundiced zoo security agencies should have first investigated Gulak’s host, Hope Uzodima, as well as his political opponents to establish their possible involvement.
This is akin to the allegation by the Lagos Commissioner of Police who raised false alarm recently that IPOB and ESN were planning to attack Lagos State. This was to conceal the plans by the terrorists patronising Nigeria Government to use their imported terrorists to bomb soft targets in the City of Lagos and blame it on IPOB. But thank God some discerning minds understood their antics and did not fall for their cheap propaganda.
We are not surprised that they quickly pointed accusing fingers at us just as they have always looked for every opportunity to incriminate us to frustrate our struggle for Biafra restoration. But this too will not fly because the world is aware that IPOB is a peaceful movement.IPOB is not a terrorist organization and does not spill blood.
Had the late Chief of Army Staff Attahiru’s plane crashed in the East, definitely, the so-called Intelligence Agency would say it was IPOB that shot down the plane and everyone in Fulani controlled Sharia core North would believe it. For us, linking IPOB with the assassination of Gulak is simply to pitch the East against the core Islamic North as a cover and justification for another round of pogrom against Easterns living in the North.
We are only after the restoration of Biafra. Assassination of politicians is not part of our agenda otherwise we would have killed the Efulefu politicians in the Eastern region sabotaging our struggle.
We are in mournful mood ahead of the May 31st Biafra Remembrance Day in honour of our fallen heroes. The terrorists in security uniform looking for any slightest opportunity to blackmail us should not cash in on the sit-at-home order given by our Leader for our fallen heroes. The order is for Monday and not Sunday. People were freely moving about on the streets of Biafra without any molestations by IPOB and there was no way we could have singled out Gulak for attack because we a non-violent movement.
Once again we urge the illiterate and clearly unintelligent agencies masquerades as intelligence agencies we have in Nigeria to please leave IPOB out of their messy incompetence. We challenge Aso Rock to Institute an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the incident and expose those behind this gruesome murder of an innocent man.
Our hearts go out to the family of Gulak. May his soul rest in peace.
COMRADE EMMA POWERFUL MEDIA AND PUBLICITY SECRETARY FOR IPOB
A group known as Save Imo has opined that with circumstances surrounding the murder of Ahmed Gulak that he was assassinated for political reasons, which they said is not far from his role in 2019 APC gubernatorial primary election.
Gulak was adviser to the former President Dr Goodluck Jonathan and APC Chieftain, who conducted the governorship primary election.
THE GRUESOME MURDER OF AHMED GULAK IN IMO STATE.
Without mincing words Ahmed Gulak was assassinated by hired assassins for political reasons not far from the outcome of 2019 APC Governorship primaries.
We strongly suspect that elements of the opposition within the memberships and factions of Imo APC who lost out at the 2019 Imo APC gubernatorial primaries are responsible for the gruesome killing of Ahmed Gulak.
We call upon the IGP and Imo CP not to look far away from the quarters of those APC aspirants and their killer squad who contested the 2019 Imo Governorship primaries with Gov Uzodimma and lost out .
We urge the Police to run through the public statements of some of these opposition head eggs within and outside APC wherein they tacitly or otherwise insinuated that they will make the government of Gov Uzodimma ungovernable.
We make bold to blame Gov hope Uzodinma for lodging his bosom friend and Political ally Ahmed Gulak at Protea hotel without providing him with Police security to oversee his personal safety while in Imo state as a VIP guest of His Excellency and Imo state government.
We question why Ahmed Gulak was not quartered at the Presidential lodge with high level of privacy and better security architecture.
We call upon His Excellency Gov Uzodimma to ensure that the perpetrators and sponsors of this gruesome murder of Ahmed Gulak don’t go Scot free. They must be fished out and made to face the full weight of the law.
There is nothing like unknown gunmen in this case and or for any one to want to link this gruesome murder of Ahmed Gulak by bitter politicians to IPOB/ESN.
It is high time we separate none violent agitations for self determination or biafra republic from political opposition, politically motivated assassinations, kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and all other forms of violent criminalities ravaging our once peaceful state.
We shouldn’t submit to criminals under any disguise.
Signed. Ebubeagu Ekenulo Activist/Whistleblower. For SAVE IMO.
Below is the press release from Imo state police command confirming the death of Ahmed Gulak.

Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport. The Commissioner of Police Imo CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordone the area and arrest perpetrators.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Friday, alleged plot by the Nigerian security agencies to eliminate prominent Igbo personalities.
Kanu alleged that security agencies were plotting to eliminate these Igbo personalities and blame their killing on Eastern Security Network, ESN.
Speaking through the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, Kanu urged Igbo personalities to be wary of security operatives attached to them.
He assured prominent people of the Southeast that ESN had no intention of killing them.
A statement by Powerful reads: “IPOB ably led by our prophet and liberator Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has uncovered plot by Nigeria security agencies to eliminate prominent men and women, politicians and stakeholders in the whole of Biafraland and blame it on IPOB and the Eastern Security Network, ESN.
“Every politician in Biafraland must be wary of those officers assigned to them as police or army guarding them. ESN, IPOB has no plan to kill our own in Biafraland because we’re going to get Biafra together. It profits us nothing to kill our own despite the treachery by some of them.
“Our people must be careful because Fulani terrorists in Nigeria army and police uniforms are working tirelessly to ensure that Biafra businessmen, women and politicians are killed in order to pitch Biafrans against themselves and ultimately take undue advantage of the confusion to keep us in bondage.
“But we are smarter than all of them put together. IPOB is raising this alarm for the wise to apply wisdom and avoid being victims of this evil plot.
“Nigerian security agencies have instructed their officers attached to the politicians to start gradual elimination of Biafrans who they were assigned to protect. But we will resist this wicked plot.”
He also lamented that IPOB members and ESN operatives are being arrested by the Nigerian security.
“They are arresting and abducting innocent Biafrans suspected to be members of IPOB or operatives of ESN security outfit. They have arrested more than 68 innocent citizens and detained them at the State CID Awka, Anambra State. Unknown gunmen are doing their own attacks but Nigeria DSS has rather decided to blame ESN operatives and IPOB members instead of investigating to unravel the perpetrators.
“The incessant arrest and secret abductions of suspected IPOB members at Izombe, Agwa and other parts of Oguta and Ohaji Egbema cannot stop us from pursuing this freedom.
Just yesterday, they secretly abducted Obinna Nwuzi, the son of the man whose wife Olivia Nwuzi was abducted and detained in an anti-kidnapping station at Owerri Imo State. The boy just returned from Ebonyi State university to see his family but wicked Nigeria security personnel arrested him. His mother has also been detained for over three weeks now.
“We are warning them never to harm these innocent persons because if they do, they will regret their actions very soon,” he added.
It was the IRGC that was entrusted with the protection of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who Iran used to claim was a university researcher but who official obituaries said was a brigadier-general high up in the defence ministry. Israel believes he headed the military arm of the nuclear programme, overseeing the research needed to fit a nuclear warhead to a ballistic missile. Critical voices within the Iranian establishment, including a government spokesman, have already claimed that Mr Fakhrizadeh’s security team had been warned of a plot against his life, with details of when it would take place.
The more sophisticated the plot and the weapons that killed Mr Fakhrizadeh, the less culpable the IRGC might seem. What is certain is that in the early afternoon of Friday, November 27, the brigadier was in a Nissan Teana car with his wife, driving with a protection detail to his home in the town of Absard, 50 miles from Tehran. The convoy took the eastern approach to Absard, a picturesque resort between mountain ranges and home to a number of Iran’s elite, along highway 79, the Firuzkuh Road. It took the looped exit slipway and turned south into town. According to the initial accounts, a pick-up truck parked on the opposite side of the dual carriageway exploded with great force, bringing the convoy to a stop and sending debris flying 300 yards away. A gunfight followed, led by five or six men who got out of a vehicle parked by the motorcade’s side of the carriageway.
“As soon as the explosion ended, shooting started,” a lorry driver who witnessed the incident said on state television. “They were shooting from both sides. Then I saw one man lying on the road and shooting at me. I put my lorry in reverse gear.” Another account, by Fereydoon Abbasi-Davani, a close friend of Mr Fakhrizadeh and a fellow nuclear scientist — who himself was injured in an assassination attempt in 2010 — gave more detail, presumably based on what he was told by officials. He said that two snipers and four other gunmen began the operation from a Hyundai Santa Fe. Four other men on motorcycles were also involved, he said. It was not clear exactly where Mr Fakhrizadeh was killed. His sons, Hamed and Mehdi, said he died in his wife’s arms on the roadside. One version claimed he had got out of the car, perhaps at the sound of the initial explosion, to see what was happening. More in keeping with Mossad’s methods would be that an assassin ran to the door, pulled him out to check his identity, and shot him twice, to make sure. One picture from the scene showed blood on the road. Mehdi Fakhrizadeh said that his father was shot from about four or five yards away. His spinal cord was severed. Hamed Fakhrizadeh, the other son, arrived at the scene shortly after, describing it as a “war zone”. Their mother gave an interview to state television within hours, but was vague on details. She was covered by her chador and it was not clear whether she had been injured. A friend said she had minor wounds and that she had described bullets flying overhead “from left and right”. Early accounts said that a bodyguard, Hamed Asghari, had been shot four times after throwing himself in front of Mr Fakhrizadeh. Other sources say three bodyguards were killed. The “official version” began to change two days later, when regime- affiliated news agencies published claims that a “remote-controlled gun” planted on the pick-up truck played a part. More strange details followed: the gun was controlled by satellite and contained elements of artificial intelligence, enabling it to zoom in on Mr Fakhrizadeh, which was presumably a reference to facial recognition technology. The first mention of the remote-controlled gun came from the Fars news agency, which picked up an account by Javad Mogouyi, an IRGC film-maker who was a friend of one of the bodyguards, and who posted a story on Instagram. He talked of a 12-strong team carrying out the assassination. However, Fars added that a gun on the pick-up opened fire before the explosives detonated, a claim elaborated by a succession of senior officials over the coming days, including Ali Shamkhani, secretary to the national security council. “The operation was a very complicated operation and was carried out by using electronic devices,” Mr Shamkhani said on the Monday. “No individual was present at the site.” The final touch, the satellite-controlled artificial intelligence capacity, was added this week by Rear-Admiral Ali Fadavi, deputy head of the IRGC. The idea of robot machineguns sounds like science fiction but is already science fact, so Mr Mogouyi’s account is to some extent credible. Israel uses remote-mounted machineguns to guard its border fence with Gaza, and they are said to have been responsible for a number of deaths. The technology is also deployed in tanks, including British ones, to control turrets. Rafael, an Israeli manufacturer, makes a machinegun version. It is radio-operated from near by, however, rather than via satellite. Arms experts say that while weapons can be controlled by satellite — drones being the most obvious example — the signal transmission time would make such a system unwieldy for a ground-level assassination’s split-second precision.
“There’s a lag that makes it difficult to actually control a system with this level of accuracy,” said Arthur Holland Michel, an artificial intelligence specialist with the UN’s Institute for Disarmament Research. He said all the technical elements of the weapon described by Rear-Admiral Fadavi existed, but were not known to have been brought together into a single system. Facial recognition technology is also not fully reliable. Israel is said to have set Mossad a condition for its covert assassination programme that the risk of “collateral damage”, even to targets’ families, should be minimised.
As shown by the survival of Mrs Fakhrizadeh, this condition was observed. Would the Israelis rely on an experimental weapon for a high-stakes, moving target? “Even if you had these competencies and you managed to put them all together, I still can’t see a world where this is the method that is most likely to succeed,” Mr Holland Michel said. “There are other, more certain ways of killing.” The Iranian version was met with derision within the Israeli intelligence community, and on social media inside Iran. Israel will not confirm, beyond a few hints, that it was behind the assassination, but one intelligence official who spoke to The Times was prepared to speak “hypothetically” about the assassination. “A large number of operatives are involved in such an operation,” the official said. “It wouldn’t make sense after carrying out all the stages to locate the target’s whereabouts and schedule and scouting out the location, not to have people on the ground to ensure he was indeed dead.
“It’s obvious that the Iranians are extremely embarrassed that such a complex operation was carried out deep within their territory, so they’re trying to make it sound like some kind of science fiction or James Bond film. Meanwhile, they’re still trying to work out how their security was breached so badly. Heads will roll, without a doubt.” Iran’s leaders are said to be divided over whether to retaliate or to await the inauguration of President Biden, who wants to restore the 2015 nuclear deal, making its scientists less of a target. One unanswered question is whether the US had approved the assassination. Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, is reported to have flown to Saudi Arabia for an unprecedented joint meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, the weekend before the killing. It is highly probable that the CIA had an idea of what was about to happen. It may even have supplied logistical support, but it is highly unlikely that such a sensitive operation would be discussed at such a meeting, for reasons of operational security. Iran’s scientists, for their part, may be keeping a closer eye on their own operational security from now on. The Times UK
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security agencies to find the killers of the 15th Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd).
The President, who described the killing of former Chief of Defence Staff, as “very sad and unfortunate,” also ordered them to bring the perpetrators to face the full force of the law, while assuring greater security and safety for all users of the country’s roads.
Marshal Badeh died from gunshot wounds sustained in an attack while returning from his farm, on Tuesday.
The sad incident happened along Abuja-Keffi road.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement, said President Buhari regretted that Badeh fell victim to incidence of violent and fatal attacks on the nation’s highways.
While commiserating with the family of the late four-star general, his friends and professional colleagues in the military, and the people and government of Adamawa State, the President noted that the late Marshal Badeh attained professional fulfilment in his over three decades military career.
The President prayed that God Almighty comforts all those who mourn Air Chief Marshal Badeh and grant his soul peaceful rest. (The Sun)
The informant said Lee got the information from several previously active members of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.
The note also said a week before the assassination Tippit, who was alleged to be the head of the right-wing John Birch Society in Dallas, and a third man – possibly Oswald – met in Jack Ruby’s nightclub.
Ruby shot Oswald two days after Kennedy’s assassination and died of lung cancer in 1967.
The two men had supposedly met in a Florida airport as part of a group heading to Cuba to “cut sugar cane” and were heard discussing “Big Bird” by an informant.
Lee would later tell the FBI that communist Oswald was somehow involved in the anti-Castro movements as well as the FPCC, which allowed him to see both “sides of the issues involved”.
Tippit was in his patrol car when he stopped Oswald as he walked down Patton Avenue in Dallas.
After talking to Oswald through the window, he got out and was shot three times with a .38 calibre revolver. An autopsy showed he then took a bullet to the right side of his temple as he lay on the pavement.
However, the suspicions about the Dallas police were not confined to the US. CIA notes of a May 1964 conversation with Khrushchev said the Soviet leader did not believe American security was so “inept” that the president could be killed without a conspiracy.
He believed the Dallas Police Department was an “accessory” to the assassination and the CIA source “got the impression that Chairman Khrushchev had some dark thoughts about the American Right Wing being behind this conspiracy”.
When the source said Oswald and Ruby were both “mad” and he “acted on his own… Khrushchev said flatly that he did not believe this”.
The Soviets also suspected then Vice President Lyndon B Johnson could have been behind the killing, according to one of the 2,891 newly released documents.
In a note from December 1, 1966, FBI Director J Edgar Hoover said he was aware a US mole in Moscow was saying the KGB was “in possession of data purporting to indicate Johnson was responsible for the assassination”.
It came as the Kremlin feared it would be blamed for the President’s death and face retaliation.
The details emerged in a message to the White House called Reaction of Soviet and Communist Party Officials to the Assassination of President John F Kennedy.
The declassified documents, containing more than 30,000 pages, have done little so far to silence conspiracy theorists who believe Oswald was a fall guy for a wider plot.
One document from 1975 contains a partial deposition by Richard Helms, a deputy CIA director under Kennedy.
The intelligence chief later became CIA chief to the Rockefeller Commission, studying unauthorised CIA activities in domestic affairs. Commission lawyers appeared to be seeking information on which foreign leaders might have been the subject of assassination attempts by or on behalf of the CIA.
A lawyer asked Helms: “Is there any information involved with the assassination of President Kennedy which in any way shows that Lee Harvey Oswald was in some way a CIA agent or agent?”
But the document ends short of his answer. The papers also show Helms, who later served under the administrations of Lyndon B Johnson and Richard Nixon , claim that Johnson used to say Kennedy’s killing was an act of foreign retribution.
Helms said in a deposition: “President Johnson used to go around saying the reason President Kennedy was assassinated was that he had assassinated President Diem.”
South Vietnamese leader Ngo Dinh Diem was arrested and killed just weeks before Kennedy during a US-backed coup. (Mirror)
