Willie Obiano Will Join APC After Tenure, Says Chris Ngige |RN

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano

Ngige insisted that supporting re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari remained the best bet for the South-East to produce the Nigerian president in 2023.

• Gov is APGA, will not go anywhere – Commissioner

From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Awka

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has disclosed that Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, will join the All Progressives Congress (APC) immediately after his tenure.

The minister, who spoke to newsmen in Awka, said he was sure of the move, as he knows governor Obiano to be a pragmatist and a realist.

“When he finishes serving, he will come. I’m sure. He is a pragmatist, he is a realist. I have tried to let him know that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is good, but it’s a regional party. You can’t use a regional party to go and do election and fight. People have abandoned the idea of regional parties. That’s why AD, AC decided that after many years of staying at the periphery of Federal Government, they decided to coalesce with LPP; CPC and rebel faction of APGA, led by Rochas Okorocha and formed APC.

“So, regional parties are not in vogue and the governor knows. Even his predecessor, Peter Obi, when he was using APGA to canvass and do other things, it dawned on him that he cannot be playing in the region with a regional party. He can’t come to national with a regional party and that is why he unceremoniously defected. In fact, they started the defection you are seeing today. Obi is part of the early defectors.

“So, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but Obiano is a progressive. Any day he will do it, we will sit with him and arrange it in such a way that the Igbo will go to a party that will reckon with them and that party is APC.”

Meanwhile, Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba has said nothing will make Governor Obiano leave APGA.

Adinuba said both APC and PDP have failed Nigerians as they had nothing tangible to offer.

“Governor Obiano is what the great Zik of Africa would refer to as the “beautiful bride” wooed by every confident suitor. He is wanted by all the parties because of his record and brand of politics devoid of bitterness and primordial cleavages.

“But, he is not going anywhere. He is an APGA man, through and through. He is strongly backing a candidate who all Nigerians expect to win the presidential election.”

In a related development, Ngige has insisted that supporting re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari remained the best bet for the South-East to produce the Nigerian president in 2023.

Ngige said President Buhari and the APC would have the moral grounds and the basis of equity to support a president of South East extraction if the zone gives him and the party full support in 2019 general election.

The minister, who spoke to newsmen in Awka warned the zone against making the mistake he claimed they made in 2015 when, according to him, they put all their eggs in one basket of the PDP against his advice and turned back to cry of marginalisation.

“All I’m saying in effect is that the Igbo of the South-East must do political engineering and the step to take is to support the Buhari presidency for 2019 and vote for it with all their strength. Because by so doing, they will not be left out in the power-sharing that will come thereafter.”   (The Sun)

Agbodo, Onitsha

No fewer than 100 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nkpor Ward 1 in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday defected to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The leader of the group and former councillorship candidate of PDP, Mr Obioma Arinze Molokwu, who led others to join APGA at Idemili Council Headquarters said that they took the decision to defect to APGA due to the laudable developmental projects embarked upon by Governor Willie Obiano in the state.

Molokwu said that the governor had exemplified good governance in his four years in office and needed to be supported for the second term, in order to consolidate on his achievements, saying that they took the bold decision to join the moving train of APGA that has given the state facelift within the shortest period in power.

He noted that the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili, Chief Ralph Nnabuife, who is from Nkpor community has been complementing the efforts of the state governor by embarking upon various developmental projects in the council, which spurred them to join him to lift up the party in the council and to ensure that Obiano emerged victorious in the forthcoming November 18 governorship election.

While receiving the defectors at the council headquarters in Ogidi, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Chief Nnabuife flanked by the member representing Idemili North at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Quit Order: Don’t Take Arewa Youths’ Threat Lightly, Says APGA Chieftain

From: David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi

National coordinator of Stakeholders for Willie Obiano for 2nd Tenure and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain, in Anambra State, Chief Ekene Enefe, has advised the Federal Government not to take the repeated quit notice given to Igbo in the North by Arewa youths lightly.

Reacting, on Tuesday, Chief Enefe noted that with repeated threats by the Arewa youths to evict the Igbo from the Northern Nigeria, a massacre of the Igbo in the North on or before October 1 this year might not be ruled out. He said it was the responsibility of the Federal Government to ensure the safety of lives and property of the Igbo and other Nigerians in the North before it got out of control.

Chief Enefe, who is also the national fund-raising coordinator for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999 during the election that brought Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to power as a civilian president advised the Igbo to hurry back home whether the Arewa youths’ October 1 quit notice would be realisable or not.

Enefe argued on the premise that up till now no single person amongst the youths that made the statements had been arrested.

He noted that the Northern Elders had as well given their own support to what the youths said which he noted was enough to tell any doubting Thomas that there was danger ahead. He wondered why such a scenario would be taken lightly by the Igbo who had the same experience in 1967 when thousands of them were butchered in the North after the same plea not to worry.

“How can you ask the Igbo to stay put in the North when not even a single soul has been arrested amongst the Arewa youths who have continued to make these inflammatory statements, asking Igbo to leave their territory. Federal Government is not sincere about diffusing the fears in the North. Those people who made the statement should have been arrested and prosecuted, if there is no hidden agenda in asking the Igbo in the North to remain where they are. And the Arewa youths have even continued to repeat their threats, to show how resolved they are.

“This is not the first time the Igbo had faced this kind of situation. If the Acting President is not being remote-controlled by the Northerners, let him order the arrest of the those Arewa youths and their prosecution to serve as a deterrent and by then Igbo will rest assured that their lives and property would be protected in an event of any crisis in the North,” Chief Enefe posited.

He told the Igbo in the North to discountenance the advice to stay put in the North to avoid being taken unawares. He reminded them of an Igbo adage that said anaghi agwa ochi nti na agha ebidogo (You need not tell the deaf or someone hard of hearing that war has started).  (The Sun)

3000 APC, PDP Members Defect To APGA In Anambra State |The Republican News

…As Aguleri youths berate Ezeonwuka over comments

From Chidi Nnadi, Enugu and Obinna Odogwu, Ekwulobia

About 3,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ugbene community, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The defectors, led by the National Chairman of Ugbene Great Ambassadors Club, Chief Aaron Onwelukwue, disclosed that their defection was informed by Governor Willie Obiano’s “sterling performance in office” which they crave its continuity.

Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Chief Chikodi Anara, and Chairman of APGA in the community, Mr. Cajethan Anako, while receiving the defectors pointed out that the people of the area had made informed choice by joining the party.

He described APGA as a movement which all well-meaning Igbo men should identify with.

“Governor Obiano is embarking on long term investment for the future of our children. So, Ugbene people have taken the right decision to join APGA,” Anara said.

Meanwhile, youths from Governor Obiano’s home-town, Aguleri in Anambra State, have berated a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of APGA, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, over his claim that APGA was not ready for the November 18 gubernatorial election.

The youths, under the aegis of Aguleri National Youth Association said the fears raised by Ezeonwuka were misplaced as they insisted that the APGA chieftain lacked necessary information.

The National President of Aguleri National Youth Association, Nnamdi Ikeli, who replied Ezeonwuka in a statement, expressed optimism that Obiano would return for a second term.

He urged the general public to disregard the statement credited to Ezeonwuka, saying, “he made an illusionary statement that is not only far from the truth, but one which lacks iota of political awareness and events in Anambra for the past three years.”

Ikeli noted that Ezeonwuka was becoming old, which might have affected his political reasoning in recent times, pointing out that there had never been a time Aguleri people lost in any challenge or war which was a clear indication that “God is always on our side just like the Israelites.”

He said the APGA government in Anambra State has performed creditably well under Governor Obiano, which has secured his second term chance.

He said Governor Obiano would not only win the November 18 gubernatorial election, but also with a high margin, boasting that no other political party in the state would be able to challenge APGA in terms of acceptance, political mobilisation and demonstration of goodwill to Anambra people.

“We, therefore, use this medium to call on well-meaning Anambrarians to disregard such statement from Chief Ezeonwuka and concentrate on their respective vocations while enjoying the dividends of democracy inherent in the Obiano’s administration,” he said, cautioning against any form of rigging during the poll.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Anambra State Housing Corporation, Chief Godson Ezenagu and the leader of Ugbene Ambassadors, Chief Fabian Ekwuazu and the Caretaker Committee Chairman for Awka North, Emeka Onwuzuka, in their separate speeches urged the people to work for the victory of Obiano in the upcoming election in the state.   (The Sun)

Sack Of Oye As APGA Chairman: What Is The Fate Of Obiano’s Second Term Bid?

By Ike A. Offor
The high court in Enugu yesterday sacked the chairman of APGA,  Dr Victor Oye, who is the SA to Governor Willie Obiano. This means that he is no longer in the position to help Obiano clinched to his second bid for office.
The high court in Enugu decided that Chief Martin Agbaso is the rightful chairman of APGA, and this has now thrown up a new challenge for Gov. Willie Obiano.
Those politicians who do not include the appropriate permutations once a court verdict is involved may not know yet the problem Gov Obiano’s second term chances have encountered with Chief Martin Agbaso the new National Chairman as declared by an Enugu High Court.
It means that from the expected appeal from the Dr Victor Oye faction to the Supreme Court that Agbaso remains the National Chairman. He can only cease to remain so via the verdict of the Supreme Court…that will likely come after November 18.
Question…will Agbaso give Gov Obiano ticket?
