Kanu was arrested in October 2015 and subsequently detained by the Buhari led Federal government for treason. He was arraigned before Justice Adeniyi Ademola at a Federal High Court in Abuja. The judge granted him bail which the federal government refused to implement. The IPOB leader has since been held in a prison in Abuja despite several court ruling in favour of his release from detention.

Many prominent Nigerians and clergies have also spoken up for his release. (SaharaReporters)
