The President Mohammadu Buhari today flags off the commencement of services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line. He flagged off the ceremony in the company of several dignitaries, among them are the senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, the minister of transport, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
This is a project whose credit must be given to the immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Ebelechukwu, who saw the vision to rehabilitate our rail lines across the country.
Speaking at the train’s main station at the Idu area in Abuja, President Buhari said the federal government would link all states and commercial centres in the country with rail lines, adding that the train operation would also serve as a major catalyst for industrialisation and generation of employment.
The Abuja-Kaduna rail line is completely a new project, since there was no rail lines running in that axis of the country in our history. Goodluck Jonathan administration took a bold step to commence such project aimed at helping transportation of persons, goods and services via rail or trains.
This project will go a very long way to improve transportation of goods, persons and other services. Above all, it will create very much needed jobs for unemployed youths and others.
The Senate President who tweeted on his tweeter handle praise the completion of the project saying:
Just last week @NGRSenate passed a new Railway Bill. Today, we formally launch the Abuja-Kaduna railway! https://t.co/IsHT9xO3Ea
