The General Assembly of Jalingo Catholic Diocese has asked the Federal Government to urgently put measures in place to end incessant killings in Taraba state.
This is coming barely one week after Fulani herdsmen killed 44 people in four communities in Gashaka and Bali local government areas of the state and rendered hundreds of others homeless and displaced.
Nonetheless, the Assembly noted that despite the huge successes recorded in the fight against insurgency, special attention must be given to the continuous killings being perpetrated in Taraba state with a view to finding a permanent solution to it.
According to the communique, “There is no doubt that government efforts at ending insurgency are yielding fruits, but the absence of Federal interventions in Taraba is limiting progress. Attacks are recorded daily, people are being killed and communities destroyed.”
