- Set to lay off 4,000 more

Osun state chapter of the People Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday declared that since returning for his second term in August, 2014, Governor Rauf Aregbesola has sacked up to 2,000 workers as he has urged another batch of 250 senior local government workers to proceed on compulsory leave.
The PDP reminded Aregbesola in a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Prince Diran Odeyemi, and made available to THISDAY that during his electioneering campaigns he promised job creation and not sack.
“But since Buhari, after so much noise about his readiness to pay unemployed graduates N5,000 if elected President, chose not to honour his promise, Aregbesola may be pardoned for lying to the people of Osun.
“Retrenchment or compulsory retirement may be a better option, when those in active service are being paid half salary which does not even come regularly” Odeyemi declared.
“However, sending as much as 2,250, 000 workers out service at their prime with the news coming out indicating that another 4,000 names have been compiled for further lay off will compound economic challenges the state is facing now.”
