Could Someone Tell Buhari And APC That The Electioneering Days Are Over

By Ike A. Offor

It is really repugnant listening to Buhari and agents of his government or the APC leadership shift all blames away from themselves and either put it on the former president Goodluck Jonathan or they completely play indiffernce of the dwindling situation in the country.

The latest remarks from President Buhari on the value of the national currency and and the state of the economy is not only preposterous but very offensive. These are not things any seriously conscious politican or leader, who has the true and honest feeling of the people at heart should utter from his own mouth.

What does the Mr President take the citizens for, fools or idiots, who cannot tell their left from their right or who cannot tell the state of the economy from their everyday experience?

Even the Nobel Laurete Prof. Wole Soyinka has admitted or agreed with the majority of peoplein Nigeria that there is a new wave of economic difficulties pervading the entire country. It is not something you could hide from the common man  on the street. They see and feel it everyday. it is not far away from them but within and around them.

Apparently worried by the continuous decline in the nation’s economy, Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, yesterday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to convene an emergency economic conference for experts to brainstorm on the way forward and future of the economy. The Nobel laureate made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja.

According to Soyinka, the conference became necessary to enable experts diagnose the problems currently facing the country and make necessary recommendations for government to get the economy out of the woods.

He said: “I agree with those who say the economy is bad. It is obvious and it is so bad. I think the Presidency should call an emergency economic conference where experts will be enlightened. “We really need an emergency economic conference, bringing experts together to march the nation forward. I think the economy is not encouraging. Quite frankly, I think most economists will agree with this.”

“The total number of Buhari’s Media Advisers/spokesmen is 5 (Femi Adesina, Shaaban, Tolu Ogunlesi Garba Shehu and Bashir Ahmad)?
While the total number of Economic Advisers is 0, I mean ZERO.
We can clearly see his priority…(media propaganda, as if Mr Lai) and zero interest on our collapsing economy” wrote James King in social media forum

The president said that the Nigeria’s economy is the number one in Africa, as if it was his government that made it so. It appears that they take credit when it is not due, but refuse responsibility when it is due.

When the past government of President Goodluck Jonathan rebased our economy that made Nigeria’s economy the number one in Africa, APC and their supporters were are full of jest and heavy criticism.

Now, President Buhari is taking credit for the rebasing that made Nigeria’s economy the best in Africa. It appears the president is completely lacking in knowledge on what to do to revive the ailing economy. He has no economic team, but has five-member media team. Isn’t it right to say that his prirotiy squarely lies on media propaganda than on how to move the country foward?
