The old days of medical tourism by our Presidents and Head of States are fully back. A tradition only shun by President Goodluck Ebelechukwu Jonathan. A true patriot, who spent all his vacations and medical treatments within the shores of Nigeria.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina disclosed that president Buhari left for a 5-day holiday.
But a source close to Aso Rock hinted to The Republican News reporter that, the President extended his abroad trip for medical check up and treatment. Did he hand in his notice of holiday before leaving for his speech before the EU parliament or was it an emergency extension?
According to Mr Adesina, while the President is on vacation, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will carry on with the functions of the President.
The statement further said, ”In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
What is not legally correct here is the failure of the President to state the truth behind his trip to Europe for his speech at the EU parliament and Fund-raising for Syria Refugees in France, which has turned to 5-day vacation in extension.
This brings to mind the way the former President Umaru Musa ‘Yar’Adua handled the issues surrounding his illness while he was the president.
